Heat Storyline

Hunters and their prey—Neil and his professional criminal crew hunt to score big money targets (banks, vaults, armored cars) and are, in turn, hunted by Lt. Vincent Hanna and his team of cops in the Robbery/Homicide police division. A botched job puts Hanna onto their trail while they regroup and try to put together one last big 'retirement' score. Neil and Vincent are similar in many ways, including their troubled personal lives. At a crucial moment in his life, Neil disobeys the dictum taught to him long ago by his criminal mentor—'Never have anything in your life that you can't walk out on in thirty seconds flat, if you spot the heat coming around the corner'—as he falls in love. Thus the stage is set for the suspenseful ending....

Heat goofs

CREW: A few crewmembers are reflected in the glass when Neil walks in front of Van Zant's house.
CONT: Vincent's hair and Neil's shirt collar during the cafe confrontation scene.
CONT: During the attempted getaway in the midst of the shootout, Macauley, in the passenger seat, fires a gun repeatedly through the windshield of the car. We see rear view mirror fall twice.
CONT: The level of whiskey in Vincent's glass while he is talking to Justine.
CONT: Marciano's tie disappears then reappears during his meeting with Hanna in Las Vegas.

Heat trivia

In a deleted scene, Nate tells Neil that he and Chris will be set up with new lives in Ireland.
'Jon Voight' (qv) initially turned down the part of Nate, telling 'Michael Mann (I)' (qv) that there were several actors who could perform the part better. Mann told Voight that he wanted him for the role since he'd always wanted to work with him.
In an early draft of the script, Vincent Hanna had a cocaine habit, which, according to 'Al Pacino' (qv), explains his bombastic outbursts.
'Dennis Farina' (qv), a former Chicago police officer, was a consultant on the film since the story was based on a Chicago police officer and criminal. Farina had previously played a Chicago cop in Mann's television series _"Crime Story" (1986)_ (qv).
The concierge at the airport hotel is played by 'Tom Elfmont' (qv), a former L.A.P.D. detective who served as one of the film's technical advisers.
