Miracle on 34th Street Storyline

A little girl discovers dreams do come true if you really believe. Six-year-old Susan has doubts about childhood's most enduring miracle - Santa Claus. Her mother told her the "secret" about Santa a long time ago, so Susan doesn't expect to receive the most important gifts on her Christmas list. But after meeting a special department store Santa who's convinced he's the real thing, Susan is given the most precious gift of all - something to believe in.

'Alvin Greenman' (qv) (The Doorman) appeared in the original version as Alfred.
Macy's department store refused permission for its name to be used in this remake.
In its original theatrical release, 20th Century Fox offered a full refund to any viewer who didn't enjoy the film. Approximately 1500 tickets were returned to the studio.
The name of the department store is C. F. Cole's. In Australia, there is a supermarket chain called Coles, operated by G. J. Coles & Co. The company has been in existence since 1914, and so was a known company from the time of the original Miracle on 34th Street (1947). C & F are four letters down from G & J respectively.
Susan's middle name is Elizabeth. 'Mara Wilson' (qv)'s middle name is also Elizabeth.

Miracle on 34th Street goofs

FAKE: In the Thanksgiving Parade scene, the trees in Central Park are seen budding for spring (the scene was shot in April).
CONT: While Bryan is giving his final statement, Susan is seen sitting away from her mother in one shot and cuddled up next to her seconds later.
CONT: Near the beginning of the film, when the drunk Santa falls off the parade float, you can see a sack full of presents on the back of the float. In the next shot, when people are lifting the sleigh off him, the presents have disappeared.
CREW: While in Santa's room at the psychiatric hospital, a reflection of a crew member can be seen in the side of the shiny porcelain sink.
FACT: When Santa Claus tells the little girl his name in other countries, he states that in Italy his name is "La Befana", however that is the name of the kind witch that flies around filling stockings on January 6th. His name in Italian is "Babbo Natale".
